Does PhoneTell replace my dialer?
No, not really. On Android phones, PhoneTell is integrated into your phone’s dialer. This means you can use PhoneTell any time you need to find a number of any person or business–even if they are not already in your phone address book.
How does PhoneTell respect my privacy?
All the legal details are in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, which you should read. But in short, unless you give us permission, we will never give out any personally identifiable information about PhoneTell users to any third parties. We may use such information for our own internal product development purpose, but that’s it.
Does PhoneTell work in my country?
At this time, PhoneTell is officially available to users in North America (Canada and United States). Full functionality is limited to North America. Outside of North America, search is limited to Bing, Yelp!, and a few other limited databases. The ability to identify inbound callers is not available. The ability to respond to incoming calls with a one-click SMS message is fully functional and customizable.
How do I download and install PhoneTell?
The easiest place to find PhoneTell is the Android Market, which you can typically find on the front screen of your phone. Click the Android Market Icon (green shopping bag), then enter PhoneTell in the search box. Once the PhoneTell app downloads and installs, click on it to start. Click OK when it asks your permissions and accepting our Terms of Service.
How do I register and link my personal contact accounts?
In the PhoneTell settings, you can sign up for an account. Once registered, you are able to add other accounts for PhoneTell to search when looking for people you are looking to find, such as Gmail, LinkedIn or Salesforce.com. It’s free and easy! (We don’t share this information! See our question on Privacy for more on this.)
How do I create a PhoneTell shortcut?
Sure, here’s our favorite – create a PhoneTell shortcut. What you do is press and hold the magnifying glass button in the right hand corner of your phone. Then you can use this button to bring up PhoneTell quickly anytime you want. Click on the “Complete this action using PhoneTell…” prompt, then click on the “Use by default for this action,” and remember to SAVE. You can always use Voice Search whenever you wish.

How do I find my Contacts in PhoneTell?
Begin entering a name in the PhoneTell search box. PhoneTell first looks in your address book and presents contacts matching the name you are typing. If multiple people have the same name, (e.g. you know more than one Bob), Phonetell puts them in order based on the frequency you call them – after it learns which contacts you call the most. Our animation and video will show you more.
Does PhoneTell also find other People and Businesses?
PhoneTell continues search beyond your address book to not only your LinkedIn, Gmail or Salesforce.com, but also to white and yellow page listings, as well as popular reference sites such as Yelp and Bing.
How does PhoneTell Search work?
First, launch PhoneTell. Upon opening, you’ll see a Search box. Just type in the name of any person (Mary), business (JiffyLube) or even a category of business (pizza) and you’ll get a list of results that most closely match your search, starting with your phone’s contact list and broadening out to lists of people you have linked to and places close to you. PhoneTell has the largest collection of phone number databases in North America and rank-orders search results from these sources and others such as Bing and Yelp.
How do I set my location?
PhoneTell automatically detects your location using a combination of GPS (satellite), Cellular tower location, and sensing local WiFi hotspots. To change or adjust your location, go to Settings and select adjust or change your location.
How do I use voice recognition instead of typing?
On Android 2.0 or higher phones, you may opt to SPEAK the contact you’re looking for instead of typing it. Just touch the Microphone icon in the virtual keyboard. When the “Speak now” box appears, speak in a regular voice and what you say will appear in the search box, saving you time and typing. Remember to clear the existing search box before using this feature

What happens when someone calls me?
PhoneTell’s Inbound Call Assistant looks in our database then displays the name and general location of your caller. If you can’t take the call, you have options to send an SMS message and add a call-back reminder to your calendar. Our animation and video will show you more.
How does PhoneTell Don’t Disturb work?
PhoneTell lets you automatically reply with an SMS to incoming phone calls that you can’t or don’t wish to answer. When someone calls you, PhoneTell looks to see if it recognizes the phone number, then tells you who’s calling. You have the option to answer or decline the call.
If it is not working properly, go to PhoneTell Settings, click on Inbound and turn on this feature. One turned on, whenever PhoneTell recognizes an incoming call, it will show you who’s calling. You can elect to take the call as usual, decline the call and respond with an SMS message to your mobile caller. Choose from one of the preset messages or create your own and set the time for your reminder to return the call if you wish.
How do I move the Inbound Caller ID screen?
When in PhoneTell, select the Menu key, and then select Inbound, then select “Popup Position.”
Move the slider to a position that best suits your screen.
